Ultimaker 3 3-D printer

A 3D printer takes a 3D computer model and turns it into a physical object, usually made of plastic. These 3D printers use a method call forced filament fabrication (FFF). This method uses a spool of plastic filament heated until molten and then forced out of an extruder. This process builds the model layer by layer until it is complete.

0.4 mm nozzle: 200 – 20 micron
0.8 mm nozzle: 600 – 20 micron A micron is the measurement used to define the thickness of a 3D printed layer. 20 micron is 0.02 mm thick. Thinner layers are used for high detailed prints, thicker layers are great for fast prototypes.

20 ˚C to 100 ˚C heated glass build plate Thanks to the 20 ˚C to 100 ˚C heated build plate you can use a wide selection of 3D printing materials.
Build plate leveling
Active leveling The new active leveling system ensures more accurate build plate calibration and better adhesion. The capacitive sensor in the print head measures distances between the build plate and the nozzle, and the tilt angle is compensated by adjusting the z height in the first layers.
Print technology
Fused filament fabrication (FFF) This is the process of depositing layers of filament, one on top of the other, to build up shapes and models. It is a form of additive manufacturing technology and the process used by all Ultimaker 3D printers.
Print head
Dual extrusion print head Thanks to swappable print cores, you can quickly switch between different filaments and material-matching print cores. This results in higher uptime and easier maintenance of your 3D printer.
Print core replacement
Swappable print cores Faster print core changes mean higher uptime and easier maintenance. Your Ultimaker 3 comes with print cores for build (AA) and water-soluble support (BB) materials.
Build speed

The build speed relates to how fast the filament can be extruded through the hot end of the 3D printer. The higher the value the greater the achievable print speed.
Print head travel speed
30 to 300 mm/s Travel speed relates to how quickly the print head can move.
Feeder type
Dual geared feeder The new dual geared feeders exert more force on the filament, and also eliminate heat exposure from the motor. You can easily insert or remove your 3D printing materials and select the correct pressure with a push on a button.
XYZ resolution
12.5, 12.5, 2.5 micron The more accurate the stepper motors within the printer, the greater degree of accuracy can be achieved with each print. Our motors are engineered and tested to achieve the very highest accuracy.
Nozzle diameter
0.25 mm, 0.4 mm, 0.8 mm The swappable print cores mean easy and fast material changeovers, seamless 3D printing experience and more time-efficient workflow. The list of supported material combinations and nozzle sizes will be expanded in the future.
