Step into the world of traditional machining with this two-part, hands-on workshop designed to introduce you to the tools that have powered metal fabrication for generations. Whether you’re a builder, tinkerer, or future micro-manufacturer, this is where your journey into precision metalwork begins. 

Part 1: Manual Knee Mill
Learn to safely operate the manual knee mill, a go-to machine for creating metal parts with high precision. You’ll cover essential techniques like securing and locating your material, touching off tools, and using the mill to surface and cut a channel in your material. 

Part 2: Manual Metal Lathe
Next, dive into the manual metal lathe. You’ll practice material setup, cutter engagement, and adjusting cutting speeds, gaining the confidence to machine clean, accurate parts from raw stock. 

 

Pre-requisite: None. 

 

Schedule: This workshop meets over 2 sessions—attendance at all sessions is required to complete your project and be signed off on the equipment. 

 

What to Bring and Wear:  

  • Long pants 
  • Closed-toe shoes 
  • Safety glasses (bring your own or purchase at FUSE for $3)
